My goal as a coach
1. Keep it safe, have fun and working toward improving your game.
2. I want to see the progress of students otherwise; I'll provide both positive and negative feedback.
3. Students will be learning modern forehand and backhand with proper mechanic. Today's games are heavily rely on
topspin with relatively lighter rackets compare to the old days.
4. I always try to give 100% effort and more. Sometimes, if feasible, I go extended time to see the desired output without extra charge.
5. Last but not least, I want everyone to be happy and enjoy this sport. If this is not fun or there is no motivation in learning, then
there is no point of learning. I recommend moving on to something else that might be more interesting.
My recommendation
1. Try more than one lesson per week in order for muscle memory to work more effectively.
You often forget what you have learned from the week before.
Example: Two lessons per week for half year is far more effective than one lesson per week for a full year. Same money and time spending.
2. Try to practice as much as you can in addition to taking regular lessons.
But make sure to follow coach's guidedance. If you are not sure then always ask coach. Bad practice leads to bad habbit development which is back-firing
if it's not good practice, then you will end up wasting your time and effort instead of helping you out.
3. Show up early and do proper warm up in order to avoid injury and maximize your capability.
4. During the lesson, try to focus and concentrate as much as possible and execute the movement as instructed.
5. Understand that footwork is more important than your swing. Your good swing is a result of good movement and body balance.
If you don't anticipate well and your body balance is broken, your probability of proper unit turn, timing, take back, etc etc.. will be off resulting in
poor swing quality. Many people are lazy on footwork and split step, but those are really essential elements of tennis learning and provide foundation of how good of
player you can become once you master how to execute proper swing mechanism.
6. Not all drills can be done only on the court. Some drills can be done in your house. Spend 10 min and it may impact your skill development significantly.
